We are building a multi-use path (MUP) along Yonge Street that will run from Bloomington Road north to the GO Train Bridge. This north-south path will be designed to allow for a wide-range of recreational uses such as cycling, walking, jogging and wheelchair access. The goal for the Yonge Street MUP is to allow the community to connect to key destinations in Town such as the Aurora GO Station, existing trails, schools and local businesses. Checkout the flyover view below to see the proposed trajectory of the future MUP.

Currently, active transportation facilities are not provided along this stretch of Yonge Street. Cyclists share the road with motorists without dedicated and separated facilities, and pedestrians are using the shoulder of the road to access services and amenities north of this area. This multi-use path will increase safety for all road users.

As a cyclist, I would like to suggest that the absence of bicycle lanes north and south of the proposed project makes it pointless to provide a bicycle lane on just one side of Yonge. In reality, a cyclist travelling north on Yonge's East side won't cross the street to the West side for a relatively short distance and then be forced to cross Yonge again to the East side at Henderson. In other words, it either both sides of Yonge with bicycle lanes or neither that would make sense.

Unfortunately I missed the public meeting. I am fully supportive of a multi-use path on Yonge street as defined by the project. If option 3 is the chosen option, my only suggestion is to ensure that pedestrians will be convinced, through signage perhaps, to cross to the east side at industrial south to continue along Yonge...many try to walk on the west side goat path underneath the train tracks (likely to get to the Metro plaza) which is very treacherous, particularly in winter. As an avid cyclist who live on Ridge road I welcome a path on Yonge similar to Bayview either to the east or west side. thank you.
