Aurora Town Hall/Seniors’ Centre Parking Lot Rehabilitation and Reflection Space Construction

Work continues to progress well on site today crews removed large sections of existing concrete and stairs as work progresses through the north parking lot.

Work is progressing well as crews also formed import a large section of new concrete near the Building Department entranceway.

Removals have now begun in the north parking lot as the project moves into phase two of construction. Crews are currently removing the existing steps and interlock areas in preparation for new concrete.

All staff and visitors are reminded to only use the main south entrance doors on the first floor of Town Hall. There is no entry or exit through the north parking lot doors while construction is underway.

The south Town Hall parking lot is now open and available for public access, while the north parking lot is closed for construction. The 3rd floor entrance is unavailable during this time. Please access Town Hall through the 1st floor entrance.

Due to limited on-site parking, staff and visitors are encouraged to use available side-street parking, where permitted. This will help keep spaces available for Seniors Centre patrons who may require closer access.

The Town Hall Rehabilitation Project will move into Phase Two beginning Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

As part of this transition, the south Town Hall parking lot will reopen for parking and public access at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 16. The south parking lot entrance will return to regular use as the primary access point to Town Hall.

At the same time, the north Town Hall parking lot will close for rehabilitation work. During this phase, there will be no access to Town Hall from the north parking lot.

Staff are asked to enter the building through the main south Town Hall entrance.

To help ensure parking remains available for Seniors Centre patrons,staff are encouraged to park at Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Park (Civic Square Gate) whenever possible during this phase of the project.

This week, the contractor will finalize the remaining work in the south parking lot near the entrance. Once this work is complete the south parking lot will reopen to the public

Following the reopening of the south parking lot, the contractor will transition to the north parking lot to begin the second phase of construction.

Further details, including anticipated dates for the parking lot transition will be provided shortly.

Construction Update

Progress continues at Town Hall. The new light poles have now been installed and are operational.

This week, crews focused primarily on landscaping work within the reflection space including placing the bulk of the planting materials.

Beginning Tuesday, crews will return to site to begin removing the remaining asphalt and sidewalk from the south entrance way, as landscaping in the reflection space nears completion. There will be some temporary disruptions near the south entrance as crews work to replace the sections of sidewalk and curb.

Seniors Centre On-Street Parking

The South Parking Lot at Town Hall is nearing completion, and Engineering is currently anticipating reopening the lot during the week of September 14, 2026. Please note that this timing is subject to change as work progresses and the project website will be updated as information becomes available.

With students returning to school next week, we would like to remind Senior Centre visitors using on-street parking to please avoid parking in the designated drop-off zone and on the east side of John West Way north of the fire hydrant near Amberhill Way. These areas are active YRT and school bus routes during the school season and must remain clear (Figure 1).

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and patience while construction continues.

Parking Lot:

Line painting in the south parking lot is now complete. We are awaiting the installation of the new light poles. Crews are waiting on the completion of work in the Reflection Space before the remaining entranceway work can be finished.

Once this work is complete, the south parking lot will reopen and construction will move into the north parking lot. Regular access to the south parking lot will resume at that time.

Reflection Space:

The reflection Space is nearing completion. Crews have completed the interlocking and are now working on the final plantings.

Parking Lot:

All concrete work is now complete and crews are finishing the final grading of the site today. Asphalt paving is scheduled to follow with the work expected to take place on Thursday and Friday.

Reflection Space:

The flagpoles have been adjusted to make sure they are level and straight. The crew is continuing to lay the remaining paver stones as the space moves closer to completion.

Parking Lot:

Concrete work is nearing completion with crews pouring additional sections of sidewalk last week. This week crews will continue grading the parking lot in preparation for asphalt paving.

Reflection Space:

Work on the reflection space is progressing well. All concrete work is now complete and crews are installing the final sections of interlock stone. Plants and final landscaping will follow as the space moves closer to completion.
