Aurora Town Hall/Seniors’ Centre Parking Lot Rehabilitation and Reflection Space Construction

Parking Lot:

Last week the existing asphalt was successfully removed from the parking lot. Work is continuing this week with the installation of new light poles.

Reflection Space:

Good progress continues in the Reflection space. Crews are preparing for several new concrete futures scheduled to be poured later this week.

Parking Lot:

Significant progress continues in the parking lot with crews completing the installation of the new storm drainage system. Most concrete removals have also been completed with only minor remain work and select areas

On Friday, July 31st, crews are scheduled to begin removing the existing asphalt as they prepare for the new parking lot. This operation will involve heavy equipment and may generate increased noise and dust throughout the day. We appreciate your patience as this phase of construction moves forward.

Reflection Space:

Work and the reflection space continues to advance with the new storm drainage system near in completion. Crews are currently constructing armour stone retaining walls, and shaping the new landscaping for the next stages of construction.

Parking Lot:

Crews progressed well last week, completing large sections of new curb and sidewalk. The new storm pipe infrastructure is nearing completion, enabling work to progress onto the next stage of asphalt removal.

Reflection Space:

The crew is completing the installation of three new soil cells which will help support root growth for the new trees. Work will continue on installing the remainder of the new drainage system this week.

A temporary accessible access ramp has been installed at the Aurora Seniors' Centre to help maintain access during construction.

Please note that this area is for accessible pick-up and drop-off only. No parking is permitted.

Parking Lot:

Crews successfully completed a large portion of sidewalk and curb, with construction progressing steadily across the site. Work continues on the underground storm pipe system.

Reflection Space:

Crews continue to make good progress in the reflection space with the underground drainage system prepared for installation.

Parking Lot:

Last week saw good progress on removals and the installation of new a manhole and two catch basins. Today, crews will pour new sidewalk near the seniors centre while the removals crew works ahead of them.

Reflection Space:

Crews uncovered abandoned retaining walls which required additional removals. Today, crews will continue preparing the site and begin installation of the underground drainage system.

The South Town Hall parking lot closure is in full effect.

Some important reminders:

• Town Hall is accessible via the north entrance on the third floor.
• The Seniors Centre is accessible via the main entrance via the pedestrian walkway off of John West Way.
• There is no access across the parking lot from Town Hall to the Seniors Centre. The only access between buildings is via the sidewalk on John West Way.

Starting Tuesday, July 14, the south parking lot at Aurora Town Hall will be closed to allow our contractor to complete rehabilitation work.

During this time, visitors are encouraged to use the north parking lot or the permitted on-street parking areas shown in green on the map below.

Alternative Parking Areas

Access to the Aurora Seniors' Centre building will remain available throughout construction. Six accessible parking spaces, permitted on-street parking, and a shared bus stop/drop-off zone will be available at this time

Please note that parking is not permitted within the designated drop-off zone. Refer to the map below for access details.

Aurora Seniors' Centre Access

Visitors to Access Aurora should enter Town Hall through the north parking lot and follow the posted signage from the 3rd floor entrance to the 1st floor.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as these improvements are completed.

Seniors Centre Walkway:

The new concrete was placed today! The contractor is on course to have the walkway reopened next week.

Reflection Space:

The retaining wall has been successfully reinstated. Crews now continue work on removing and disposing old interlock and concrete.

Seniors Centre Walkway:

Crews are placing concrete formwork. Our concrete pour will be delayed until tomorrow due to today’s threat of thunder showers.

Reflection Space:

Work continues on rebuilding the retaining wall.
