Town Park Accessible Playground
After collecting feedback, the Town's park development team has incorporated comments and considerations received and is now finalizing the design, ahead of preparing to tender out the manufacturing of required materials. The final draft design renderings can be seen below.
As part of the improvements, the following features will be included in the final design provided that any additional budget is approved by Council and no other unexpected issues arise.
Key components:
A junior and senior child combination play structure with included accessible ramps for users and child supervisors
A full swing set including junior and senior child options with accessible swing seat
Two double side-by-side slides for junior and senior children accompanied by a child supervisor
Interactive play board feature (touch and turn features)
Two spinners, one flush grade for wheelchairs and another with accessible components
Accessible roller slider
Flush grade rubber surfacing
Direct connection from asphalt to junior and senior combination play structure
Next steps will include finalizing design and project costing, with a report back to Committee of the Whole in June. Once approved, we will go out for tender to procure the supplied equipment. Depending on lead time to manufacture the specialized equipment, construction is slated for later in 2024, with the playground fully operational for beginning of 2025.

Hi,
Looks good but are there no monkey bars? This is the favourite part of many children, I've noticed. I understand the design is meant to be accessible, but why not include the monkey bars as an option? They are important to the development of physical coordination, as studies show.

Hi! BC has a lot of parks with interesting elements like kid ziplines and in-ground baby trampolines. I think these small additions could really elevate the playground in a non-obvious way!

Will the splash pad remain?

We are so fortunate in Aurora to have the beautiful Town Park and it's incredibly exciting that we're upgrading the playground equipment. I love the designs and wanted to share one thought - could we consider more "natural" colours for the equipment, to complement the natural beauty of the park? There are some great examples of playgrounds done in greens and browns that create a feeling of a natural, beautiful place for children to play. Taking this approach would ensure that Town Park retains the wonderful, natural charm that it has today. The equipment design itself is fantastic, just wondering if we could explore a more natural colour palette alternative.

Please keep a splash pad at our park! I do not see one in any of the plans. We use this park multiple times a day almost everyday day of the year, especially in the summer. The splash pad is VERY IMPORTANT to us

Get rid of the Ivy EV chargers. They have been broken 100% of the time I've checked, and they make good parking spaces illegal to use. Theirs is a negative contribution.

Please enforce the rule that no dogs are allowed on the splash area! Even though it is clearly stated in the park rules. I cannot bring my child to play there because dog owners always come and let their pets play with water.

Hi, I like the upgrade idea but I've seen upgrades similar and the gym equipment is damaged the second year due to no maintenance and the sponge safety surface was also damaged and not repaired. I recommend that as part of the contract that yearly maintenance is included in the cost.
