Hartwell Way Neighbourhood Park

Consultation has concluded.

The Town of Aurora is seeking public input into the development of the new park at 276 & 310 Hartwell Way.

Conceptual plans have been prepared in accordance with the Town’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan and as directed by Town of Aurora Council. Town staff wish to stress that this park is intended to provide alternative amenities and an aesthetic that is different from the local parks in the area such as Ada Johnson Park and Edward Coltham Park. It is the intent that this park will have an overall natural feel recognizing the connection to the natural environment on many levels. We hope this park will inspire free, creative play, link people to the land and provide interesting and unique amenities.

One of the main considerations for this park is the connectivity to the overall natural heritage system including the David Tomlinson Nature Reserve. A welcome centre is proposed that will serve as a gathering and information area as well as a trailhead. This area is intended to facilitate both structured gatherings as well as informal gatherings.

Other proposed amenities include a naturalized playground providing alternative play opportunities than the more structured play equipment that is provided in nearby parks, as well as a small fenced dog run and community gardens. The community gardens are proposed to be raised planting beds including accessible planting beds. Both the community gardens and the dog run will require community involvement through an Adopt-a Park partnering program. The proposed amenities and layout of the park can be viewed in the column to the right.

In conclusion, in the interest of our kids’safety and well-being of the residents, we recommend the government canceling the dog off-leash area and increase the boundary distance between the community park and the residential backyards

You may need to submit a survey as comments may not count. We don't know if even a survey counts as the decision may be already made for us.

My friend was attacked by a dog from her back while walking in the neighborhood last year, badly injured and mentally stimulated. So there is a dog park in the residential areas is a bad idea.

leo over 3 years ago

I STRONGLY DISAGREE TO BUILD THE DOG PARK NEAR THE RESIDENTIAL AREAS.

leo over 3 years ago

It would be better to remove any dog park from the design, because it will be too noisy to the neighbours around the park.

I strongly disagree build a dog off-leash park in the neighborhood park, we don't hate the dogs, but it is too close the residential area, we perfer the park can easy walk, relaxing, do some excersises, but will feel scared or nervous for the dogs around.

I'm the person who living Josehp Hartman Cres. I DON NOT AGREE WITH THE DOG PARK.
I love dogs but don't like the dog park too close to my children due to the safety issues. This park is in the middle part of the community, so I think the designer should ask the people's idea who live most close to this area, but not the people who live 2KM away.

Allen Ru over 3 years ago

We can't build a dog park so close to the community. There are a lot of people in the world who don't like being around dogs that much, and there are a lot of people who are terrified of dogs. Because of this dog park, many people may not to go out for a walk and exercise. In this special period, how many people will have health problems due to lack of exercise for this reason and how many people will have mental health problems because they have to stay at home all the time because they are scared of dogs ? Shouldn’t we put the children’s and elderly’s physical and mental health issues first?

I‘m definitely disagree with the dog park in the area. My child was bitten by a dog when he was a child, and even now he is very nervous about approaching a dog. Doctors say that if he is kept in a state of high stress, it could lead to some mental illness.

I think the dog park should be kept away from the community. I don’t want to be forced to live with dog noise.the distance between the community park and the residential back yards is too close.pls cancel the dog park and increase the boundary distance from backyard to community park.

It is not good to build the dog park nearby the residential area, it is too close and will have safety issues for children, please change the side to think about people’s feeling who are living this area. Thanks

I sincerely suggest that anyone who loves dog park so much should build one in her backyard, so everyone is happy

My parents have sleep disorders, the dog park is too close our backyard, it's definitely noisy. I don't want to them live with insomnia and anxiety, it will be serious impact on the health of them. So I am against to build a dog park.

Jessie over 3 years ago

To be honest, the plan of the park comes as a bolt from the blue to me. There was a park where I used to live can the dog for a walk. They bark all day long. That is the main reason I moved here! But I never thought I am going to repeat my nightmare! The insomnia was so severe that I had to take medicine to help me fall asleep. I even suffered from depression. So I am dead set against having a park where dogs can be walked here.

The designated dog park off-leash area can cause various risks. First, according to the blueprint, there will be two primary school to be built in the street cross the dog park The dog park absolutely affect the students in the school. Second, the shortest distance from the area to residential house is only 500 meters. Dogs barking and Dog smell will absolutely disrupt the resident’s living. If it goes down for a longtime, the living quality and well-being will be seriously declined, especially for those who are living in close proximity to the area can be avoidably suffered.
Finally, In the city and other city, I knew some dogs in the city and other city, no dog parks were built so close the resident.
We recommend the city cancelling the dog park in the community park.

I think a dog park is an excellent idea and I feel it is in a great spot. There are so many dogs in this neighbourhood and to have a communal place for them to socialize and run off leash will be so nice. It will also give dog owners a place to meet and connect in our large community. With such an active friendly community I look forward to being in this future space and connecting with the community (socially distanced currently of course). Aurora is such a welcoming and friendly community and I look forward to using this future space and I feel the dogs will too.

After going over the Concept Master Plan and the Suggested Site Features, I believe that the design of the Hartwell Way Neighborhood Park is perfect and should remain unaltered throughout its construction. I absolutely love the inclusion of the Community and Butterfly gardens as they represent the parks goal of connecting to the natural heritage system. Its very thoughtful that everything in this plan, from the Naturalized playground to the Senior Seating area, is designed to encourage community interaction for all ages. My favorite part of this plan is addition of the small dog park which allows our trusty canine friends to play, exercise and socialize.

As one of living Josehp Hartman Cres. neighbors, I strongly disagree build a dog off-leash park in this neighborhood park. Yes, I am very uncomfortable around dogs, but I can't avoid, because it just designed after my backyard, it too close. I can't imagine how I should live here, noise, smell, unsafe. I don't mind build a dog park, but please do not build in residential area, at lease 500 meters away from neighbor's backyard. We need a quiet and safe community. Thank you.
