Consultation has concluded.

The Town of Aurora is seeking public input into the development of the new park at 276 & 310 Hartwell Way.

Conceptual plans have been prepared in accordance with the Town’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan and as directed by Town of Aurora Council. Town staff wish to stress that this park is intended to provide alternative amenities and an aesthetic that is different from the local parks in the area such as Ada Johnson Park and Edward Coltham Park. It is the intent that this park will have an overall natural feel recognizing the connection to the natural environment on many levels. We hope this park will inspire free, creative play, link people to the land and provide interesting and unique amenities.

One of the main considerations for this park is the connectivity to the overall natural heritage system including the David Tomlinson Nature Reserve. A welcome centre is proposed that will serve as a gathering and information area as well as a trailhead. This area is intended to facilitate both structured gatherings as well as informal gatherings.

Other proposed amenities include a naturalized playground providing alternative play opportunities than the more structured play equipment that is provided in nearby parks, as well as a small fenced dog run and community gardens. The community gardens are proposed to be raised planting beds including accessible planting beds. Both the community gardens and the dog run will require community involvement through an Adopt-a Park partnering program. The proposed amenities and layout of the park can be viewed in the column to the right.

I strongly disagree to build the dog park in the residential area .

Doris Dou about 4 years ago

This Community build the park is very good thing. But if there is dog park In it is not good idea. Dog park should not be in the residential area, not safe , so noisy, lots of smell.

As the residents of the community Hartwell Way, we would like to express our overridingconcern about Hartwell Way Neighbourhood Park plan (“the park” below) which will be implemented in our community soon.

In the beginning, the community park abuts onto the residential backyards with the shortest distance of 5-10 meters. It will disturb the residents’privacy in the community.

Furthermore, the designated dog off-leash area (“the area” below) located in the center of the park can cause various potential risks.

On one hand, the shortest distance from the area to the residential houses is only 50 meters. Dogs barking will absolutely disrupt the residents’ peace and quiet. If it goes down for a longtime, the living quality and well-being will be seriously declined, especially for those who are living in close proximity to the area can be unavoidably suffered.

On the other hand, the running dogs will threaten children’s safety. There are many kids from the age of 3 to 15 living in our community. According to the blueprint, there will be two schools to be built nearby. Dogs running in and out will pose a great danger to the exuberant children playing in the park and to the students who are waiting for school bus. The park patrons strolling in the pathway will also feel unnerving. We do not want to put our kids’life on the line while playing in the park since dogs can run off leash freely in that area. More importantly, there is no guarantee that the large running breed dogs will not
jump out of the fence and there is no one can afford the serious consequence.
In conclusion, in the interest of our kids’safety and well-being of the residents, we recommend the government canceling the dog off-leash area and increase the boundary distance between the community park and the residential backyards. We are grateful for your effort to this project. We are willing to work with you to create a beautiful and harmonious neighbourhood enviroment

Great idea! More activities for people, engage the community: exercise equipment, sports, etc. Less parking and more activity space.

Instead of dog park, beach volleyball, badminton, basketball and fitness equipment should be considered. Building a dog park in a residential area is not a good idea. The town should find another location for a dog park. Parking should be reduced (28 cars is too many) and replaced with some bicycles station and a recreation space. Some parking can be allowed at the future school and along Hartwell. People should be encouraged to walk and bike. Some sustainable solar powered lighting should be considered in park lighting and roof-integrated structures.

I'd love to see the parking lot to be replaced by a bike station and leave the bigger space for the green field. The park design should encourage local residents to walk and bike in the neighbourhood instead of driving to the park.

This is a great idea! Love to have walk way park nearby without the traffic and enjoy the sunshine with family together. Thank you for sending the survey to us and being part of it.

Hello,
I must suggest that we design this park with consideration of also accommodating the surrounding natural wildlife.

It would be great to see/have many trees, the more the merrier.
I also am very fond of the idea of somehow implementing feeding stations for birds, and a tall fountain that provides water accessible to only birds and other animals (not to be contaminated by humans).

Overall, I suggest we have areas in this park that also benefit nature and wildlife.
Last but very important, to have sufficient installment of garbage and recycling disposal bins/canisters to mitigate littering.

Thank you for reviewing.

I love the idea of this park. Great design. It checks all the boxes. So looking forward to its completion.
Thank you.

We don't think building a dog park in residential area is a good idea. Considering noise, environmental and safety issues, city should find another location for dog park.

I suggest to set up some table-tennis table and fitness equipment in this park.

I hope the community park have the long distance from my house.

I believe to increase people socialization in area it might be good idea to add a skate board ring same as the one in Wilcox as I can see a lot of kids and young groups with family are gathering there and very energetic moments are shared there. I see that project is one the most used facilities in the area.
To have a live , energetic and active community adding small sports fields (tennis or basketbal-footbal- ice skates area) can really increase the people contribution in all activities and can break the ice of community atmosphere. Specially ice skating which can bring more kids to activities in cold and quite long winters.

Since this park will be part of a heritage system connecting to wildlife park trails, A bird friendly year around water feature/s placed in view of seating areas will be a wonderful addition.

Poornima about 4 years ago

Love the concept. This neighbourhood needs a dog park and community gardens. Live down the street in William Graham and willing to volunteer. will be nice to have and missing is a tennis court. Is there a chance this can be incorporated in the proposed park or at Edward Clotham - it has a huge open space.

Poornima Saravanan about 4 years ago

It would be best to include a lighted basketball/tennis court in the design

There is already a well equipped play area nearby so using this as a nature centric park is an excellent idea.

RAL about 4 years ago

Could you add the area for kids play sands?

Or the water park.
