Consultation has concluded.

The Town of Aurora is seeking public input into the development of the new park at 276 & 310 Hartwell Way.

Conceptual plans have been prepared in accordance with the Town’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan and as directed by Town of Aurora Council. Town staff wish to stress that this park is intended to provide alternative amenities and an aesthetic that is different from the local parks in the area such as Ada Johnson Park and Edward Coltham Park. It is the intent that this park will have an overall natural feel recognizing the connection to the natural environment on many levels. We hope this park will inspire free, creative play, link people to the land and provide interesting and unique amenities.

One of the main considerations for this park is the connectivity to the overall natural heritage system including the David Tomlinson Nature Reserve. A welcome centre is proposed that will serve as a gathering and information area as well as a trailhead. This area is intended to facilitate both structured gatherings as well as informal gatherings.

Other proposed amenities include a naturalized playground providing alternative play opportunities than the more structured play equipment that is provided in nearby parks, as well as a small fenced dog run and community gardens. The community gardens are proposed to be raised planting beds including accessible planting beds. Both the community gardens and the dog run will require community involvement through an Adopt-a Park partnering program. The proposed amenities and layout of the park can be viewed in the column to the right.

I sincerely suggest that anyone who loves dog park so much should build one in her backyard, so everyone is happy

Putting a dog park in the neighbourhood would be great! My dog loves seeing other dogs when we go for walks and I think this will be a great place for him to socialize with the local dogs as well as a place to see other dogs. It's also a good idea for those who aren't very comfortable around dogs because it means that they know where to avoid if necessary.

I would love to see a dog park be added to the Hartwell Way Neighbourhood Park. Dog parks are an excellent way to promote pet health and socialization for young and old dogs alike. Opportunities for dog interaction is important in the well-being of dogs and a dog park allows for more dog lover interaction as well. Dog parks are also very clean as responsible pet owners take care of their pets in public places, especially dog parks. Overall, I think the dog park will be a lovely, positive addition to the park.

A dog park will be a brilliant addition to our community! The proposed park layout will provide new opportunities to explore the outdoors, connect with neighbours and catch up with furry friends. The vibrant and energetic atmosphere of an off-leash dog park will create a local hub for all dog lovers and their canine companions. It will provide a secure space in our neighbourhood for dogs to get the exercise they crave and provide a controlled environment to ensure the safety of all members of the community. Furthermore, this new dog park will be advantageous over yet another recreational park, which tend to generate lots of noise late at night. Dog parks are full of playful activity during the day and quite at night, making them an ideal addition to the community. Overall, I am very pleased with the planned park layout and I am looking forward to many smiling faces and tail wags to come!

Was excited to see the addition of a dog park to our doggy neighbourhood, Both dogs and owners will be very appreciative. Looks like a lot of good thinking went into filling this vacant space which is a bit of an eye sore,

Wonderful, a dog park is necessary given the number of dogs in our area. Dog owners will be respectful and ensure safe behavior as well as picking up which we see happens now on the streets, The area is fenced so safety is ensured. Love it ; excited we are so close by to this as well. Majority of people here seem to own small dogs as well.

I recommend the designer make the sport area to replace the dog off-leash park.the dog park is too noisy for the community.please increase the distance between the community park and the residential backyards.now it is too close.

Guo over 3 years ago

It looks the dog park is too close to the houses. It will make too much noisy. It would be better to remove it from the park.

I think the dog park should be kept away from the community. I don’t want to be forced to live with dog noise.the distance between the community park and the residential back yards is too close.pls cancel the dog park and increase the boundary distance from backyard to community park.

I ask for the cancellation of dog off-leash area in the park, and i ask for increasing the distance from the park boundary to the residential backyards.

I would say no for the design of dog off-lease area, noise, unsafe. I have sleep disorders, I can't sleep if the dogs barks at night. I suggest that we design this park with consideration of also accommodating the surrounding many trees, flowers, plank road, we like a quiet and peaceful community park.

I don't think building a dog park in residential area is a good idea. Thank you so much

Alan over 3 years ago

I strong recommend the government canceling the dog off-leash area for safety concern.

1. Dogs barking will absolutely disrupt the residents’ peace and quiet.
2. The running dogs will threaten children’s safety, there are many kids living in our community, and there will be two schools to be built nearby. We do not want to put our kids’life on the line while playing in the park since dogs can run off leash freely in that area.

I am very appreciated if you can reconsider the park's design, thank you.

The dog park is way too close to the residential area.

I have been on sick leave for 4 months with depression and I really need a quiet environment. I can't accept living in an environment full of barking dogs. I might not survive. pls cancel the design of the dog park and move it away from the community.thanks!

In conclusion, in the interest of our kids’safety and well-being of the residents, we recommend the government canceling the dog off-leash area and increase the boundary distance between the community park and the residential backyardsresidential backyards
