The Town is planning to decommission a section of 350mm asbestos-cement watermain located between 15390 and 15408 Yonge Street. This pipe was installed in 1957 and, during a recent inspection following a watermain break, we found it to be in poor condition. Additionally, part of this watermain runs through private property at 15408 Yonge Street, where the Town does not have an easement, making it difficult to properly maintain.

Because of its age, condition, and location, about 200 metres of this watermain will be taken out of service. Our hydraulic modelling shows that removing this section will have little to no impact on the Town’s overall water distribution system.

As part of the project, the service line that currently supplies the condo building at 15390 Yonge Street will be disconnected from the old watermain and replaced with a new connection directly to the watermain on Yonge Street.

Overall, this work will help remove outdated infrastructure and upgrade water connections, improving water quality and extending the lifespan of the system.
