Water and Wastewater Master Plan
We're excited to kick off the Water and Wastewater Master Plan! This is a comprehensive long-term strategy that will guide our water and wastewater services for both current and future generations, helping ensure the Town continues to provide safe, reliable, and cost-effective water services as we grow.
To lead this effort, we have engaged T.Y. Lin International Canada Inc. (TYLin), who will conduct a thorough assessment of our existing infrastructure, including the age, condition, and capacity of our water and wastewater systems. This study will also examine our future growth needs, offering a strategic vision for the next 25 years.
Through the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) Process, the Master Plan will provide clear recommendations for projects to maintain and improve water and wastewater services across the community.
Thank you for your interest and support in helping us build a resilient future for Aurora!

Shawn asked about 2 months agoThe Water and Wastewater Master Plan is funded 50/50 between the Town’s water and wastewater reserves, of which these reserves are funded 100 % through the Town’s water and wastewater rate revenues.

Shawn asked about 2 months agoThe Town presently fully recovers its storm water system’s operating and asset management costs through a flat rate regime which is not unusual across municipalities. As you mentioned, this rate structure presently does not consider the size of the property and its ability to absorb rain and snow water. However, it does differentiate between residential and commercial properties, placing a significant amount of the cost recovery burden on non-residential properties as you can see from the current storm water rates:
That being said, the Town does intend to undertake a study which will re-visit its present storm water rate regime. One of the key objectives of this review will be to ensure that its storm water rate structure is sharing the storm water system’s costs as equitably as possible across all of its property owners.

CatherineD asked about 1 month agoThis Water and Wastewater Master Plan will assess the capacity of the Town owned water distribution network (ie: watermains) and not York Region's infrastructure or their water supply sources.
The Town's drinking water is treated and supplied by York Region. Prior to distributing the water to the Town, the Region undertakes an extensive testing and quality review. Information on the Region's water quality testing and monitoring, as well as frequently asked questions about their water, can be found on the Region's website at: Drinking Water Quality and Monitoring | York Region. The Town also tests the water prior to distribution to the Town's residents and businesses.
