Town Square’s grand opening, set to unfold over multiple weeks in fall 2024, promises a variety of indoor and outdoor entertainment, including hands-on workshops, exclusive previews from partners, and performances from a dynamic range of talent.

Grand opening celebrations will showcase the venue's state-of-the-art design — a remarkable 32,000 square-foot addition and 29,000 square-foot outdoor community space — along with multi-purpose functionality and future programming.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore the new Aurora Museum & Archives collection storage area, providing a glimpse into the Town's storied past.

Transparency is central to our approach — budget updates are available on Engage Aurora, under ‘Capital Budget’. Rest assured, we're actively implementing strategies to mitigate costs and optimize resource allocation to ensure the successful completion of Aurora Town Square. Anticipation is building as we near Aurora Town Square’s grand opening celebrations in fall 2024 — it’s been a long time coming! Breaking ground in fall 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted our schedule, creating a ripple effect on many areas of the construction process. Labour shortages, exacerbated by widespread industry challenges, continue to make it difficult to secure skilled workers. Additionally, disruptions in the global supply chain have led to shortages of essential materials, further complicating the construction timeline.

Despite these obstacles, our vision for a vibrant and unique community hub in Aurora is unwavering. We remain committed to completing Aurora Town Square to the highest of standards, for the community to enjoy for years to come. No matter what corner of Aurora you’re from, we can’t wait to meet you at The Square!

We're building our vision and 2023 was a big year – Town Square progressed into the final phase of construction! Highlights include a focus on the Treasure Hill Bridge — from structural connections to the metal panel roof system, work on the outdoor square, including the installation of wood top Amphitheatre seating, diverse plantings and a concrete planter wall, the planting of our large holiday tree, installation of catenary lights, along with paving the north parking lot adjacent to Victoria Street. Inside the new addition, progress includes drywall, electrical, and mechanical works, the installation of the passenger elevator and feature staircase, painting and floor tiling, and luminous bronze hardware. Outside, exterior metal siding panels were installed and work on the bronze veil commenced.

On Monday, December 11 from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. a crane will be on site at Church Street for the construction of catenary light poles. There will on-duty police officers present with signage to direct pedestrians and car traffic. When necessary, traffic may be diverted and turning movements may be restricted at times. Please cross at designated crosswalks, exercise caution, and stay alert walking near the construction zone.
