Help us explore options for the future sustainability of Hillary House National Historic Site.The Town received a request from the Aurora Historical Society to discuss options for the long-term sustainability of the Hillary House, located at 15372 Yonge St. The Hillary House has been maintained and preserved by a volunteer board, its membership and community volunteers, but is now facing steeper challenges as the building continues to age and the volunteer base is dwindling. The Aurora Historical Society is looking to work together with the Town to explore options for the future sustainability of the building and property.As we contemplate a variety of different options for Hillary House, we are looking for public feedback. The intent of the survey is to explore options for the use of the Hillary House while continuing to recognize that the property will be preserved over the long-term for future generations. A key aspect of the Sport Plan Update will be embedding diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) across all pillars and aspects of the Plan. We want to ensure that all residents, participants, and volunteers feel welcomed and have the required supports that will enable them to enjoy and support the recreation and sport landscape in our Town. Background about the Sport Plan We are committed to fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and active community by providing high-quality sports and recreational opportunities for all residents. Sports and recreation activities are offered by the Town and by Local Sports Organizations (LSOs), who are volunteer-based organizations that residents and individuals can join to take place in core sports and recreation activities. As part of this commitment, we are updating out current Sport Plan to align with our Parks and Recreation Master Plan. While the Master Plan outlines the broader goals and future objectives of the Town as it relates to Parks and Recreation broadly, including supports, programming, and infrastructure, the Sport Plan focuses on the supports the Town can offer to community members and LSOs to provide leading recreation and sport experiences for participants and volunteers alike. We are working to create an updated Sport Plan that focuses on the evolving needs of our community by building on four strategic goals:<ol><li>Leadership &amp; Development Opportunities: Ensuring that residents have access to opportunities that develop leadership skills and encourage ethical participation in sports.</li><li>Sport Participant Experience: Focusing on creating safe, inclusive, and engaging environments where all participants can thrive, regardless of age, ability, or background.</li><li>Support for Community Sport Sustainability: Developing strategies to maintain and grow community sports organizations, ensuring they are well-supported and financially sustainable.</li><li>Sport Tourism: Leveraging Aurora&rsquo;s sports facilities and programs to attract regional and national sporting events, boosting local tourism and economic growth.</li></ol>Note: The information you provide will be used to help guide the development of Aurora&rsquo;s Sports Plan. The Affordable Housing Action Plan will serve as a guiding tool to establish municipal priorities, identify challenges, and support positive decision-making regarding housing in line with the overall visions and direction of the Town’s Official Plan and Regional and Provincial policies.

We are enhancing the Aurora Promenade streetscape on Yonge Street (between Wellington Street and Church Street). This historic downtown area will be redesigned with streetscape improvements for key sections of the Yonge Street corridor. The purpose of this project is to enhance the public space, integrate the downtown business core with the newly constructed Aurora Town Square, and address required rehabilitation of existing infrastructure. The Town has retained an Engineering Consultant to carry out technical studies and assessments for the subject area. Some elements that will be incorporated as part of the design include the following:&middot; Street light pole upgrades along Yonge Street&middot; Improvements for sidewalks, crosswalks, entry features, and signage&middot; Accessibility elements along Yonge Street&middot; Parking and traffic flow improvements in the downtown business core area &middot; Streetscape features such as landscaping, trees, and street furniture&middot; Rehabilitation and replacement of critical infrastructure<iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/pUMzwcXmisQ?autoplay=1&wmode=opaque&rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe> Review the <a href="https://engageaurora.ca/44385/widgets/187071/documents/135580" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">DRAFT Conceptual Design</a> now. (Please note that this is a preliminary conceptual plan only and the final design may be very different depending on the results of the technical studies and stakeholder input). As part of this project, essential infrastructure such as the existing sanitary sewer (which was built in 1932) will be assessed and replaced as part of this construction project. The sewer mains along this part of Yonge Street have aged significantly and are approaching the end of their estimated service life, which is why it&rsquo;s important to carry out these upgrades.This project is currently commencing the design phase. We will be seeking your input through various stakeholder engagement efforts such as Public Information Centres (PIC) and Open Houses in the future.
